THE KINGDOM OF OTIS

Every cat needs a kingdom, but that kingdom must be safe and have well-defined boundaries. As a cat guardian, you are responsible for keeping your cat safe, healthy and happy. It is up to you to create barriers between your cat and the dangers that exist in a world without walls. Failure to do so puts your feline companion at risk, and illness, injury, disappearance and/or premature death will likely be the result. The blame will lie solely on your shoulders, but the cat is the one who will suffer the most for your choice. Do the right thing and create a safe kingdom full of enrichment for your cat today.

The Outdoor Domain of Otis

The Kingdom of Otis is comprised of both indoor and outdoor domains. It's no secret that cats love fresh air and sunshine, but these are not the only things to be found outdoors. Creating safe boundaries for your cat is an essential step in responsible guardianship. The Guardians of Otis have created an enclosed outdoor area in which Otis and the Brothers can experience fresh air and sunshine without being exposed to predators, disease, toxins and the endless array of other dangers that exist in the world. The enclosure was featured in the May 2007 issue of Cat Fancy Magazine. The photo of the enclosure below contains hotspots on which you can click to see closer views and more details.

The Indoor Domain of Otis

The indoor Domain of Otis is designed to be very cat-friendly to ensure that He does not feel confined or deprived during His inside time. Comfortable sitting areas (below left) in front of almost every window in the house provide Otis and the Brothers with perfect perches from which they can safely watch birds, squirrels or other interesting goings-on in the yard. A variety of basket-type beds allow the cats to nap in complete comfort (below-right). No dangerous objects or chemicals are present in any indoor area to which Otis and the Brothers have access.

Play Structures

Otis and the Brothers have a cat tree (below-left), a tall scratching post (below-center) and a kitty jungle gym (below-right). All three of these play structures provide Them with exercise and stimulation. Cats love to climb and scratch. You can fulfill their needs and save your furniture by providing them with adequate play structures.

Active Enrichment

Active enrichment is extremely important to keep your cat from getting bored indoors, and to help him or her bond more strongly with you. The Guardians provide Otis and the Brothers with interactive entertainment in the form of laser pointers, a basket full of toys, clicker training, brushing and lots of positive attention. Some enrichment activities are performed every day at about the same time. Cats thrive on routine, and they quickly learn a daily schedule of activities. Once a routine has been established you are likely to discover that your cat will remind you if you inadvertently break from that routine. Try a variety of activities with your cat and see which ones he or she prefers. The process will be fun and interesting for both of you, and you will definitely gain a better understanding of your feline friend.
